Ameribridge and G&T Conveyor Company recently demonstrated a new method of baggage handling for the passenger boarding bridge operations to the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC), BNP Associates and Delta Air Lines in G&Ts state-of-the-art manufacturing / project engineering facility.

According to Transportation Security Administration (TSA) statistics the number of carry-on bags has soared 50 percent since 2008. Eighty-seven million more carry-ons were brought on planes in fiscal year 2011 than in fiscal 2010. Fifty-nine million more carry-ons were brought on planes that year compared to 2009.

To help airlines and airports solve this problem Ameribridge, headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, created the Amer-A-Lift. The Amer-A-Lift concept came to fruition after several years of research, testing and input from airlines and ground crews. The inspection took place at G&Ts Project Engineering and Manufacturing headquarters in Tavares, Florida. Currently, Ameribridge has a contract with the MAC to install three lifts in 2012. Delta operates two of the three gates receiving the upgrade and is working closely with the MAC to facilitate the successful installation of the lifts.

Ameribridge is excited about installing the first of three Amer-A-Lifts in MSP for the MAC and Delta Air Lines, said Dusty Sloan VP / GM of Ameribridge. The Amer-A-Lift is a great solution to the challenge of moving overflow carry-on bags from the bridge to the plane and vice-versa.

Weve been working on this new design for quite a while and it just made sense to reach out to G&T to help finish development of the first Delta Spec. compliant baggage lift in the industry. It will be a great addition to our line of products and services.

With G&T’s manufacturing capability this should be one of the safest and most reliable baggage lifts to appear in the industry, said Kim Perkins.
